Company History
Henry J. Seagroatt and his family moved to Berlin, New York in 1913. He worked as a grower for Sambrook and in 1920 he purchased the business. Henry built his first greenhouse in 1927 and formed the Henry J. Seagroatt Company. Additional greenhouses were added over the next twelve years.
In 1940 Henry J. Seagroatt passed the business on to his son "Bert" and his son-in-law Philip Riccardi and their families. As the demand for the high quality Seagroatt products increased, Seagroatt Floral Company was opened in 1948 as a full-service wholesale florist. The Albany location made it possible for Seagroatt to combine the high quality locally grown flowers with a large selection of floral supplies.
To meet the increased demand for our quality flowers, Seagroatt built additional greenhouses in 1984, 1985, and 1986. The Nyren Brothers Wholesale Florist facility in Plantsville, CT was purchased in 1995 and Seagroatt Wholesale Florist was formed. In 2001, Seagroatt purchased the Bay State and Johnson's operations in Cromwell, CT. The Plantsville operation was soon consolidated into the Cromwell facility to improve the distribution of our fresh flowers, supplies, and houseplants. In November of 2001, Seagroatt joined forces with Jacobson Floral Supply in our Cromwell location to increase our supply department inventory and availability in order to create a "one-stop" destination for all of your floral needs.
To make sure you receive the highest quality fresh flowers, Seagroatt transports our locally grown products in the PROCONA wet packs to our two wholesale facilities. The flowers are then custom packed and delivered daily to retail florists. Along with the fresh flowers grown in our greenhouses, Seagroatt carries a wide selection of fresh cut flowers from other local growers and various farms around the world including California, Canada, Holland, Thailand, and South America.
Our mission is to provide retail florists with the best selection of fresh flowers, supplies, bouquets, and houseplants. Our dedicated employees are the secret of our long-term success. Our family business is now operated by the third generation of our family; Albert, Philip, Stephen, and Michael Riccardi, along with our fourth generation, Charles Riccardi, and many dedicated employees.
